The snow continues!!!
The snowfall between Friday at 1pm and Wednesday 4am was non-stop. The longest break we had lasted 12 minutes! Then we got 4 more hours worth of snow mid-morning Wednesday and the skies cleared and the sun came out and we thought we were free and clear, and we got hit again in the afternoon. As of now, Noon on Thursday, we have had almost 24 hours free of snowfall, thank heaven!
Look at the amount of snow on the top of our car from ONE night!
Phew, I found the front of the car! This was after I shoveled a foot of snow off of the hood! This snow is from 2 nights and 1 day.
Since the weather isn't warm enough to melt the snow but the snow is so heavy that it's starting to slip it is hanging off of people's roofs in the most interesting way! I don't know if the icicles have anything to do with it but the snow is curling up under the roof of the house!
I really hope this person can access their house through their garage and they don't need their front door!
Look at the icicles, some of them have been blown sideways! The icicles that are sideways are huge and very flat, they almost look like a toucan beak!
I'm really not sure why our neighbor took the time to dig a path to his garden house. Call me crazy but I don't think this is the optimal time for gardening!
Can you believe the amount of snow in their yards! It's well over 5 feet high now, and all but about a foot of residual sludge, it's all from 5 days!
On Monday we had a spontaneous dinner with Genny and a much needed trip to the Onsen! We headed faithfully to our local onsen only to discover that it is under construction :( We were fearful that we would not find another one because there isn't much in area, let alone things that are open at 9pm on a Monday night! Fortunately, Eric had the brilliant idea to check out the hotel because they are open 24 hours and usually in slow season they allow the public to use their onsen. So we headed to the Grand Mer hotel! Not only was their onsen the same price as ours, and we were practically the only people there, it was fantastic and the outdoor bath had what looks like it should be a phenomenal view in the daytime. This is the hotel, this photo is from the internet and clearly was not taken in the winter but it should give you an idea. We can see this hotel from our bedroom window too!
The other wonderful feature is that they are currently demonstrating the " France Bed" which other than being absolutely amazing is basically a like a massage chair made into a bed. So after a nice long bath in the hotspring covered in snow overlooking the ocean, I enjoyed 10 minutes in a regular massage chair and 15 minutes in the France Bed, all for $5! It was a great night!
Here is something exciting that isn't snow related!! We got a new TV this week! Japan is switching to digital broadcasting soon and since the TV is on the list of guaranteed furnishings, the company had to replace it for us. I wasn't expecting anything this nice, but they sure went all out! It was perfect timing too because our TV was starting to struggle!
Out with the old. . .
In with the NEW :)
Thank you very very much Aomori, we love it!

After several days with only a few moments of relief, the snow stopped and we had the most beautiful sunset I have seen all winter. Sunsets in winter are amazing when you can actually see them, they way it reflects off of the snow is so beautiful!
Wednesday night Genny came over for dinner agaain :) It's so fun to have dinner company! Tonight had another purpose too though, Eric helped her with her computer for hours and hopefully it's running better now. Eric made is ever so popular Garlic oil dip for bread, we also had salad and Spinich Fettucini with alfredo sauce. (We made a trip to the foreign foods store, can you tell?) It was delicious and bundles of fun.
Not much exciting is happening this weekend as I have my first midterm on Monday so I will be a book worm all weekend, Eric will possible be skiing, which seems like a good idea with the crazy amount of snow we've had!
I hope everyone at home is doing well, it's so nice to hear from you periodically and have little skype chats! I miss you all very very much!

Charlie is going to be so jealous of your new TV! Seriously, unless you said what was in those pictures covered with snow, I would have never known it was your car! That is beyond excessive! Good thing they are so faithful in their plowing, otherwise people would be stuck inside for weeks, right?
ReplyDeleteYep, it sure is a lot of snow! It's supposed to be right around zero C this week, so hopefully we wont get a ton of more snow, but we shall see!
