HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
新年あけましておめでとうございます
Our New Years Eve plan was to attend a Winter Nebuta Festival at the ski resort, but due to the severe snow and ice storm we had, the festival was canceled. We spent the evening at home watching Prison Break, our new addiction. The movie store in town now has several different American television series available on DVD, so we decided to start watching Prison Break! We are hoping to finish season one before we leave for Thailand.
I decided to be brace on the first day of this new decade, and go skiing! Thank goodness I have a patient husband, because I am a terrible skier! I was however successful at safely getting off the ski lift and making the necessary immediate left turn... as for the rest of the run, that's another story. The run we did was 1,500 m long, and the first 200 m took us at least 30 minutes. Poor Eric had to dig me out of deep holes every couple of minutes... I for some reason cannot manage to turn the direction I want, so I all-to-often ended up slightly off course. About halfway down and 4-5 major spills late, I decided that I hated it so much I was going to stop, and I was going to walk down. That lasted about 10 min trekking in snow that was above my knees in ski boots... so Eric gave me a great pep-talk and I got back on my skis and went very slowly down the rest of the way. The last 400-500 m I did pretty good, too bad it took me so long to get the hang of it. That one run was enough for the day, but I will go back, and hopefully do better next time.
The rest of Eric's vacation we hung out at home and watched the snow fall, and keep falling. We have been watching more of Prison Break, and we not only finished season one but are halfway through season 2! While we were out driving on Sunday we saw something very interesting... lots of flatbed trucks piled high with snow, all driving out of town! There is so much snow, that they are trucking it out!! This is pure madness for me, coming from Arizona where are thankful for a few inches of annual rainfall. I asked for a White Christmas, and I got it... and a White Thanksgiving and New Years... maybe it will snow on my birthday too! I am anxious to see what it is like when we get back from Thailand.
As for now, we are headed off on our 12 day journey to warmer lands... where it will be 80 degrees rather than 20, and the rather than snow up to our knees we will have sand between our toes, and most importantly... Taylor Family Time!!!
Sayonara for now!
