Japan Week 45

June 7 - June 13, 2010

This week was filled with studying! Shocking, I know. Thankfully the MCAT is next week and I can soon move onto my application and personal statement :) I'm starting to finally feel ready for the MCAT, which is very comforting.

Here are a few tid-bits from the week that don't involve studying...

On Wednesday I was sitting at my desk studying (oops, I guess I lied!) and I heard the vegetable truck coming down the street, but this week he had a new song, it took me a minute to recognize it amongst the echos bouncing off the hill, but he was blaring "Here Comes the Bride". It was the most random thing ever and I got a good laugh out of it. I doubt he knew what the song was for.

Genevieve is preparing to move to Taiwan :/ it still makes me sad to think about it, but I'm excited for her. This week she had a spring cleaning sale. I got quite a few winter sweaters, which I desperately needed. We also got some decor for the house, and most excitingly a tent! Woo Hoo, we look forward to camping more :) Eric would probably argue with the aforementioned and say the most exciting thing we got was a small Japanese style drum, but so far, I'm not convinced that I will love it. My feelings about it remind me of when you give a 2 year old the new exciting musical toy and then notice the look on the parents face. It will sure be nice for me to practice for Taiko after I'm done studying for the test! (Oops, there I go again!)

On Saturday evening I escaped the study cave for a few hours and went to a pizza making party at our friends Miyo & Shu's house. They are potters and have turned an old kiln into a brick oven and it makes fantastic pizzas! Miyo worked so hard to prepare many pizza doughs and delicious sauce ahead of time and we all brought the toppings of our choice. It was such a beautiful day for sitting out on the patio and chatting with friends, eating delicious pizza and enjoying card games. We had such a fun time. . . right up until Miyo told us she is moving to Thailand for a while to teach pottery at a school for the deaf. She will be back in Japan after we are gone :( Her husband, Shu, will spend all 6 months of the Aomori winter in Thailand and Miyo will spend 3 months of the dreadfully hot Thai summers in beautiful Aomori, so they will be together 9 months of the year. We will miss them SO much!
Miyo cutting apart the pizza!
Shu- The Oven Master at Work! Michael starting on the dessert pizza! Bear Hugs for Miyo! Michael is sad because Miyo is moving, Miyo just wants to share her homemade dessert!

It was so great to be outside with our friends and get a breath of fresh air, quite literally! I'm looking forward to some free time after the MCAT :)
